Better Results From LESS Activity?

Here`s a question for you:

Before the pandemic, I had a hectic schedule, running back and forth the gym to train clients and at the time I had a consistent activity level of about 12,000 to 10,000 steps per day.

But the lockdown happened and I started training at home and training clients online and as such my activity level plummeted from 12,000-10,000 steps a day to just about 2,500 to 3,000 steps.

Major difference!

And since I train with high intensity workouts that total just about an hour a week, one might expect that given the fact that my diet stayed exactly the same that I would gain weight (as my diet did stay the same).

But what actually happened, and what happened over the years with my clients may surprise you!

Shoulder Day: My Warm Up Set...

Here`s a glimpse of Naturally Intense High Intensity Training in action with my warm up set of dumbbell shoulder presses.

With Naturally Intense High Intensity Training, the first and second sets are used as primers to warm yourself up and also mentally prepare yourself for the onslaught of the final set where you go all out!

For this set I start off with the 80lb dumbbells and employ a bounce at the bottom of the movement to emphasize the negative or eccentric phase of the exercise as well as increase the intensity.

As just because it`s a warm up set doesn`t mean it`s not still intense!

How I Lost 43lbs in 12 Weeks (And Why You Shouldn`t!)

In this video I go over the story of my coming to America and bulking up from 198.5 lbs to my heaviest ever at 252lbs and cutting down for my first major natural bodybuilding competition to 209lbs in 12 weeks!

That`s right!

I lost 43lbs in 12 weeks!

And that might sound like an achievement given the fact that I won my class but is was perhaps on the of the worst things I ever did diet wise.

In fact, I would say that my entire career became about finding a way to get into contest shape without resorting to extremes, as my sense was that natural bodybuilding should always be about health and balance.

Which ultimately became my path to find a way to stay in shape all year round without ever having to resort to any extremes, and most importantly, getting my clients into shape without any extremes as well!

Backstage at the 1997 Riverbank State Park Bodybuilding Classic.

I was 24 years old and did this show as a warm up for the NGA Hercules.

I was nowhere near the type of shape that I would be just a few weeks later (look out for a video on my first contest`s trials and tribulations coming out soon) and it`s nice to look back at times and see how far I have come.

High Intensity Pull-Ups With Isometric Holds!

One way to make pull-ups even more intense (as if they needed to be) is to employ isometrics!

Each workout we do is different and for this one I decided to do a 20 second hold at the start, pulling my chest to the bar as hard as I could while holding in the top position, and then blast up and down for 8 grueling reps!
